The last day of World Superbike private testing at Aragon saw once again Tom Sykes shine on his Kawasaki ZX-10R and unofficially pulverize the pole position record.
On Sunday, the British rider had lapped in 1′ 58.
4, which was four-tenths faster Checa’s lap record and yesterday on soft tyres he recorded a best lap of 1.
57.
2, almost half a second off the 2011 pole time.
Before we get ahead of ourselves with the oohing and ahhing, Kawasaki still seems to continue having problems regarding excessive tire wear on the entire race distance, but if they can choose the right set at Imola, we’ll be expecting to see green on the podium in one of the races.
BMW Motorrad rider Marco Melandri tested new swing-arm and suspension link, which gave the Italian rider some very positive feedback and eliminated the chatter that he had at Phillip Island, he tweeted, “Everything ready for Imola battle! Test was good, first time i felt good on my Bmw!!! Take care baby!!!” while Leon Haslam tried out a new spec engine and set his best time on soft tires and on his Twitter page @realleonhaslam wrote, “All done a good 2 day test my foot is still attached and made some good progress.
” Aprilia’s Max Biaggi set his best time during the morning session continuing to test the new evo-spec engine that will be used at Monza, which let him hit a top speed of 337 km/h, but cut short his afternoon session deciding that the asphalt was too cold, “Testing in Aragon done.
I tested a New engine and so far everything it’s ok.
I’ll use it In Monza only.
We improved the lap time but Sykes flys” reported Biaggi as he headed to Barcelona to have dinner with Jorge Lorenzo.
