Davide Giugliano fastest in the wet on day 1 at Jerez

The weather at Jerez de la Frontera continues to hamper World Superbike testing, however this time the rain and the wet track didn’t prevent the riders from Althea Racing, Pata Honda, Kawasaki Racing, BMW GoldBet and Fixi Crescent Suzuki squads from shaking off the some of the winter doldrums.

The fastest rider on the first of the two-day private test was Davide Giugliano who posted a best time of 1:50.
531 towards the near the end of the session, when the track was in slightly better conditions.

This was Giugliano’s first outing with the RSV4 as the Althea team announced their partnership with the Noale manufacturer only last December.
The Italian was faster than fellow countryman and BMW rider Marco Melandri who was second and 0.
419s adrift after also lapping yesterday to check out the fitness of his shoulder.
Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli finished ahead of Leon Camier (Crescent Suzuki) and Aprilia team mate Eugene Laverty.
Chaz Davies was just slightly faster than Jules Cluzel who tested last week at Almeria with Camier.
Pata Honda Racing who had their team presentation on Saturday at the 2013 MotorBike Expo were 8th and 9th respectively with Leon Haslam faster than Jonathan Rea.

New World Superbike team HTM Racing, with Ivan Clementi riding a BMW S1000RR brought up the rear.
Missing from the timesheet are Kawasaki riders Tom Sykes and Loris Baz who preferred not to have their Ninjas equipped with transponders.
Tomorrow will be the second and final day of testing and the weather is expected to take a turn for the better.
