Following yesterday’s MotoGP race at the Mugello, today the teams (minus Yamaha factory and satellite teams and Ducati factory) took to the track again for a day of official testing.
Casey Stoner was the fastest of the day, despite a small crash this morning, posting a blazing 1.
47.
326 lap that broke the track record and was over six tenths of a second faster than the lap time that gave him Saturday’s pole position.
Stoner was followed by Marco Simoncelli who was adrift by only 0.
096s and the only other rider to get under the 1.
48 mark.
Andrea Dovizioso was third and more than 7 tenths from the top of chart.
Hector Barbera was fourth using the Ducati step 1 and a new fairing, while MotoGP rookie Karel Abraham who had a highside and then mixed it up with Casey Stoner this morning took the fifth spot.
Dani Pedrosa managed to get back on his Repsol Honda after yesterday’s gruelling race to post the six fastest time, but cut testing short preferring to rest his recovering shoulder.
Alvaro Bautista got to test a new front tire compound and took the seventh spot followed by Pramac’s Randy de Puniet.
Also on track was Sylvain Guintoli testing for the Italian based team for the first time since 2008, in view that Loris Capirossi not recover in time the Sachsenring GP.
Moto2 rider Andrea Iannone also got his first taste of the MotoGP machine towards the end of the day.
Moto2 rider Mika Kallio put the Suter/BMW 1000cc MotoGP bike 2012 entry through its paces and it was the first time that the bike was on track for an official test, however it is still unsure if the Marc VDS team will actually field the new bike next season, considering its still very uncompetitive.
World Superbike rider Leon Haslam was also present in the Marc VDS garage, but didn’t don his leathers, but is expected to turn a wheel tomorrow before going to Brno for this upcoming WSBK round.
