Elena Rosell was the apple of discord between Sito Pons and Aspar Martinez, after Martinez decided to field the 25-year old as a replacement rider for injured Julian Simon during the Assen GP.
Her Moto2 debut was disastrous as she crashed out three times and didn’t make the qualifying cut, but the powerful Spanish manager believed in her and her train and take part in the last three rounds of the CEV Moto2 championship with Team Laglisse (sponsored by Aspar), and had her wildcard at the Aragon and Valencia GPs where she finished 33rd and 25th, respectively.
Spanish website Marca.
com is reporting that Rosell will now dispute the 2012 Moto2 season full time with the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation Racing Team (QMMF) and replace Qatari rider Mashel Al Naimi.
It isn’t the first time that the Qatari Motorcycle Federation promotes a female rider, infact they helped Paola Cazzola, Nina Prinz and Nikolett Kovacs race in the Superstock category with a Suzuki GSX-R run by Qatar Endurance Racing Team (QERT) during last month’s Losail round of the QTEL FIM Endurance championship.
Rosell will now be joining the likes of Katja Poensgen, Nikoletta Kovacs and Marketa Janakova, all of whom have competed at a World Championship level.
