By the end of 2013, Lexus will introduce a new large coupe based on the new GS to its range: the car will be the successor of the two-door SC 430 convertible, discontinued in 2010.
Lexus has previously expressed the desire of having a car of this kind in its line-up: Karl Schlicht, Head of Global Planning of the Japanese brand, revealed to Automotive News that the brand needs a new sports coupe to complement the range of saloons and sport crossovers.
The idea was also shared by Mark Templin, U.
S.
Lexus President, who recently gave the approximate price of the new vehicle: between $ 60,000 and $ 70,000.
The car will compete with the BMW 6-Series Coupe and the more expensive variants of the Mercedes E-Class Coupe.
The range could include the 3.
5-litre V6 engine of the GS, which could be combined to an electric motor, or could be a GS-F model with a sportier chassis and increased output, to rival cars such as BMW M6.
If approved for production, the car could adopt the rear-wheel drive and the same chassis of the GS, which lost 38 kg of weight in its last generation.
