Was it really necessary to build a 6-cylinder roadster? Not really, but nonetheless the new Horex VR6 is finally here.
We have already talked about this bike a while ago, but the actual release of the model has been pushed back for a while until now, when we can finally admire this “beast” powered by a 1218 cc supercharged engine delivering 163 horsepower.
Not bad at all actually, but quite far from the 203 hp output announced in 2011: the thing is that they had to reduce the displacement of the engine in order to comply with future emissions standards of the European community, but plans to build a 200 hp turbo variant have not been abandoned, as for now.
Back in April, Horex (a pretty unknown brand to most but actually founded in the 20s and fallen into obscurity in the late 50s) had announced a further delay of the production of about a month, but now the time is right: the company has just issued this official video showing the VR6 Roadster already on the road, allowing us all to see it in action, hear the impressive roar of its engine and enjoy its elegant and kind-of-vinatge design.
At a first glance, it might look similar to the Triumph Bonneville, but in reality this is a totally exclusive bike, the only production bike with a 6-cylinder engine, and we are pretty sure we will not get to see many of them around.
Building a bike like this in a time when the economic crisis is at an high, fuel prices are skyrocketing and more and more cities close their doors to polluting vehicles may seem just crazy, but we might as well be wrong: during a recent press conference organized by Horex itself , the General Director of the project said that production will start with 200 units only, but the final goal is to reach 2000 units produced per year as soon as possible.
It is certainly a very ambitious target for a model that is not completely built ‘in-house’ and will surely be marketed with mind-boggling prices.
