Following the Jerez GP, Franco Uncini (FIM Grand Prix Safety Officer and 500 World Champion of 1982) and Javier Alonso (Managing Director of Events Area, Dorna Sports) visited for two days the Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit that will be hosting a MotoGP round next year, but also a test session in July of this year, that will see Cal Crutchlow, Stefan Bradl, Alvaro Bautista, Hiroshi Aoyama and Hector Barbera (these are the names confirmed for the moment) to test at the new circuit.
The new track is still undergoing more work on minor safety modifications and has yet to receive complete FIM homologation, but they are close to receiving it.
Uncini, a former 500 World Champion, also took a few laps around the circuit on a Yamaha R1 and said, “The track is beautiful and the safety standards are very high.
Overall I can say that we are very pleased and impressed by the quality of the work that has been done, but right now we are not willing to fully approve the circuit as a few minor modifications will soon be taking place.
”Argentina was scheduled to host a round this year, and was penned in for April 14th, but the event was eventually cancelled following Repsol’s problems with the South American government.
