Mark Aitchison will be returning to the World Superbike championship for this weekend’s Silverstone round.
The Australian, after his ill fated return with the controversial Effenbert Liberty team for just three rounds (Aragon, Assen and Monza) before the squad’s definite pullout from the championship, will be replacing the still injured Alex Lundh in Pedercini Kawasaki for the ninth round of the season.
In the tragic Moscow round, Lundh was replaced by Lorenzo Savadori, but the Italian rider will be racing in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup, so Pedercini decided to call on their former rider, who has been unemployed since his misfortune with Effenbert Liberty.
Aitchison raced for the Pedercini in 2011 and his best result for the team that season was a 9th place during race 2 at Imola, before moving to Grillini in 2012, but his adventure with that team lasted just five rounds before they parted ways.
Lundh is expected to return to action at Nurburgring in September, as after the Silverstone round, the WSBK championship takes almost a month off for their summer hiatus.
