The 2011 MotoGP season has just started, but 2012 is just around the corner for the return of the much missed 1000cc format, with an announcement from the FIM that they will start accepting entries from teams who want to take part in the new upcoming season.
With the dwindling number of grid partecipants, the new 2012 rules will try to bolster the number up to a much more desirable 22 or even 24 and we could get a much more clear indication of how many teams actively want to take part in the premier racing championship at the Le Mans round, in the middle of May.

Norton has already indicated a certain interest and has been in talks with Dorna, as has BMW’s General Director Hendrik Von Kuenheim who showed up at the Qatar GP, but their are several Moto2 teams also interested, such as Interwetten, Marc VDS (with their Suter BMW Moto1) and Keifer (Kalex).
Applications start with a statement of interest that will be submitted to IRTA by April 29th at the Estoril GP, just three weeks from now.

The second step will be to submit a formal entry by May 13th, Le Mans GP.

If accepted the team, will have to lodge a security deposit by June 3rd, after which an official entry list will be published, this is more or less the same formula that the FIM and Dorna used for Moto2 entries.
