The Yamaha Super Ténéré is the bike that Yamaha is most investing in at the moment.
After the Dolomites Ride sponsored by Yamaha, we got a few details about the future XT1200Z model and where Yamaha wants to take its offroad model.
The Super Tenere comes from a strong tradition of Yamaha competition and the brand has had a boost with the new model.
Suddenly, Yamaha has a younger target market, more focused on sportier products and the future bike will reflect that.
The new, younger interest in the Super Tenere has meant Yamaha has moved away from a marketing campaign of steady touring and is now looking to new horizons of sports fun and offroad play for younger riders.
The move for a sportier Super Tenere is coming out of Italy and new accessory kits are being developed to highlight the spirit for adventure of the bike.
Taking as an example the ST1200 Diapason Racing Tocso (in the gallery), Yamaha is considering making official kits like this with the adjustable windshield, aluminium shields, lighter plates and bigger aluminium luggage accessories.
On the performance front, we’ve test ridden the ST1200 with Diapason R engine mapping at a pace not alltogether touring.
This kind of technology gives greater torque and performance to the bike with Sport settings, but leaves the Touring settings as they are for a more relaxed ride.
The new Sports setting is a more marked departure from the previous one and certainly highlights the difference between touring and sports riding much more.
The future production version of the Yamaha Super Tenere won’t be quite so exaggerated, but this is the direction that the company wants to take its new XT1200Z.
We also got some insight into the new Super Tenere restyling which will occur in the near future.
Yamaha plans to give the bike a lighter, more agile look with modifications to the plastics, and some added storage options for smaller objects.
More aluminium will feature in the place of plastic and general quality upgrades will occur.
The various details of the Diapason R by Tosco give us an idea of the changes we’ll see and we can’t help thinking that the new Super Tenere will definitely be a model to contend with.
