In today’s WSBK race 1 at the Misano World Circuit we got more for our money’s worth in a highly entertaining and difficult wet to dry, flag to flag race.
The Santamonica track had seen rain all morning but when the SBK race was lining up on the grid, it stopped raining and the race was declared wet and the entire grid started on wet tires, and on the sighting lap Troy Corser binned his BMW, hurting his shoulder and did not take part in the race.
When the red lights went out, it was Shane Byrnes who took the first place at the first curve with his private 1198 Ducati and starting distancing the rest of the riders gaining an impressive advantage while yesterday’s poleman Jakub Srmz was trailing in second.
It just wasn’t Jonathan Rea’s race.
The Irishman was to start in second position was forced to start from the pit lane, when his Honda did not start up and then after gaining several positions found himself back in the pit lane when he was given a drive-through penalty and wfen he pitted his Honda for the tire change, his second bike didn’t fire up.
Max Biaggi had an excellent start but by the third lap starting slowly to loose his advantage and falling slowly behind several riders.
