Ben Spies took his 6th straight pole position during the Superpole knockout at the Kyalami circuit beating out Michel Fabrizio by a mere one thousanth of a second and has equaled Doug Polen’s 1991 record.
Third place went to Max Biaggi on the Aprilia RSV4 who also set the top speed record and fourth went to a still suffering Noriyuki Haga who was hit by a pigeon at Monza and almost didn’t make the last splint, but managed to knockout Biaggi’s team mate Shinya Nakano during the second stint.
The second row of the starting grid will see Jonathan Rea on his Honda Ten Kate and satellite Guandalini Ducati rider Jakub Smrz, Carlos Checa will be starting in 7th place while Spies team mate Tom Sykes is in 8th.
