Davide Giugliano pips Sykes in QP2 at Assen

Althea’s Davide Giugliano took the top of this morning’s second qualifying practice at the Van Drenthe circuit at Asses was finally dry, and despite the very cold temperatures, lap times dropped.
The Italian in his last flying lap of the qualifying session posted a 1’36″814 lap pipping Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes, who led most of the session by just 0.

069s.
After yesterday’s morning crash, Loris Baz bounced back this morning to take the third spot on the timesheet and he was a little more than six tenths from Giugliano.
Jonathan Rea who will be the sole rider for Pata Honda after team mate’s Leon Haslam accident and put his CBR1000RR into fourth ahead of standings leader Sylvain Guintoli and Carlos Checa.

The Alstare Ducati rider was sixth albeit one second adrift.
BMW Goldbet duo Marco Melandri and Chaz Davies were seventh and eighth respectively.
Closing out the top ten were Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty and FIXI Crescent Suzuki’s Jules Cluzel.
Also making it into this afternoon’s Superpole will be Michel Fabrizio, Ayrton Badovini, Ivan Clementi (13°), Max Neukirchner and Vittorio Iannuzzo.

Federico Sandi and Mark Aitchison (in his second weekend with Effenbert Liberty Racing) are out of the top 15 as is recovering Leon Camier who suffered technical issues on his Suzuki.
Pedercini’s Alexander Lundh crashed again and the session had to be red flagged after nine minutes.
The Swedish rider in the accident fractured his collarbone and he’ll be joining Haslam on the sidelines.
