Italy’s most powerful maxi-scooter, the Aprilia SRV 850, is about to receive two special gifts that no other bike of it class can boast: the ABS and ATC systems, which will make riding this scoot and even safer experience.
Thanks to the excellent work performed by the Research and Development department of the Noale-based manufacturer, the SRV 850 will provide the rider with even more control on braking and acceleration.
Each one of these two systems comes with a dedicated electronic control unit that will be connected to the sensors placed on both wheels and will interact with the actual ‘central brain’ of the vehicle in order to control the motion at all times.
The two systems share the same sensors but use them in different ways: when it comes to the ABS, thhe detection systems measure the instantaneous speed of the wheels and, when the deceleration of one of them is greater than that of the other, the system will avtually come into operation: the main control unit would activate controls an hydraulic unit that, through an electro-hydraulic servo valve, will either increase or decrease the pressure of hydraulic system to recover grip, thereby preventing the locking of the wheels.
As for the ATC system, the control unit continually analyzes the behavior of the vehicle through the two speed sensors: if the rotation speed of the rear wheel is higher than the one recorded on the front wheel, the control unit can detect the slippage of the drive wheel and intervenes by acting on ignition and injection times, limiting the torque delivered to the wheel by the engine and thus avoiding a dangerous loss of grip.
Of course, the traction control system may be excluded as well, or it can be adjustead accordingly to two modes: in Sport mode the ATC intervention is less invasive, ensuring more fun but always keeping everything “under control”.
In Standard mode, the vehicle gets set for any kind of weather and surface.
