While the excitement of the Assen MotoGP got underway on the weekend, a meeting was being had to decide some new rules for the series, one of which is the significant choice of Dunlop as the single supplier of tyres to Moto2.
The decision has been taken after money was saved on the MotoGP by having the one tyre rule.
That cost cutting will now be adopted in the Moto2, which was originally desinged as a cheap racing series for 600cc production street motorcycles.
The tyre sizes will be similar to those in use on road bikes, with the front wheel required to measure no more than 3.
75 by 17 inches, and the rear six by 17 inches.
For the most part MotoGP rules will stay the same for next season, including the race practice schedule and two bikes for each rider.
This would put an end to rumours about a one-bike rule, but does dash the hopes of many that practice sessions would be longer.
