During this past weekend’s World Superbike round at Silverstone, Sylvain Guintoli said he was considering undergoing surgery to help clear up the physical issues he has been having after having dislocated his right collarbone, and torn the ligaments in his shoulder, during a cycling accident just days before the Moscow round.
The Aprilia rider, who is currently the standings leader with a 13 point advantage over Tom Sykes, has been struggling with pain and discomfort (Guintoli tweeted a pic of the collarbone is sticking out) and even has trouble shaving, so he underwent a further medical exam yesterday to further assess the situation and see if surgery could solve his issues, and if he could be fully fit before the Nurburgring round on September 1st.
Apparently Guintoli was told that an operation would solve his problems, and that he’ll fully recover, but he could risk missing the upcoming German round.
With such a tight championship, losing points would severely setback his chances at the title, so he has decided to postpone the appointment with the knife until the end of the season, hoping that almost a month’s rest, combined with physiotherapy will help his situation.
Guintoli finished 6th in a wet Moscow round (the 2nd race was cancelled) and at Silverstone, with the very tricky conditions, he finished 4th and 6th.
