We’ve found out why Yamaha’s test rider #2 was able to take the ninth spot on the timesheets today, it was because reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo was on the test bike doing some laps and making some development comparisons.
Hopefully the regular riders who didn’t make it in the top ten know this or there will be some sulking and complaints in the garages this evening.
Ben Spies was able to finish in front of his titled companion in today’s testing despite a crash during the afternoon session.
said the Texan.
“We did a few long runs and were quite fast on a hot track so it has been really productive finding how to be consistent in the heat.
It’s a pity I made a small mistake at the end of the day however I think we’ve gained a lot, especially with the rear grip of the bike.
”Lorenzo took fifth and while some are saying that he’s holding back and hasn’t really put in a hot lap to try to overtake the Honda brigade, however the Mallorcan is once again asking for more top end power on his M1.
“It was a hard and hot day today, we tried the test bike as well as my 2011 bike to reconfirm a number of new developments,” said Lorenzo.
“We confirmed that the direction is right so we will continue tomorrow with this direction on my M1.
We’ve definitely improved the traction a lot, although we could still do with some more power.
