Aprilia’s Max Biaggi made it a double at Miller Motorsports Park round and now leads the World Superbike Championship standings by 15 points over Leon Haslam, who lost the rear of his Suzuki and crashed.
The Italian once again was gifted with the victory as he trailed Carlos Checa, who was determined to make up for his DNF in race 1 and was again leading the race with comfortable lead, using the same bike as in the first race and once again his Ducati shuddered to a heart breaking coasting stop, allowing Biaggi to cruise to an easy win and his second of the day.
Leon Camier took second under the chequered flag , giving the Aprilia Alitalia Racing team its first ever WSBK one-two finish and the Brit’s second podium of the season and taking Aprilia to the top of the manufacturers standings.
Cal Crutchlow completed the final spot on the podium.
The Sterilgarda Yamaha rider battled the field to break away, stalking Camier and Troy Corser who was travelling in third after Camier’s pass on the Aussie rider and managed his pass on the BMW rider on lap 14 as the German superbike once again began to fade.
Noriyuki Haga took fourth, he too catching and passing Troy Corser who had to settle for a fifth place.
Sixth went to Sylvain Guintoli after James Toseland’s front folded under braking on lap 15.
Shane Byrne came in seventh, ahead of a battered Jonathan Rea, who faded after mixing it up with Crutchlow for the first part of the race.
Michel Fabrizio and Luca Scassa completed the top ten.
