WSBK Race 2 – Spies does it Again

Race 2 was again a Ben Spies affair.
The Texas Terror took the lead with a Michel Fabrizio hot on his tail and after four laps both riders had gapped the field, but Fabrizio could not make close contact with the American rider and by the end of the race had used up his tires.

Carlos Checa had been chasing Spies and Fabrizio, trying to catch the leaders’ pace but crashed out on lap 4 exactly in the same way that Max Biaggi did during Saturday’s Superpole.
The Samurai of Slide, Noriyuki Haga was running in the 4th, but his injuries and a certain dislike for the Miller track saw him slide back and finish 8th.

Brit Jonathan Rea was able to take down a 3rd place finish.
Max Biaggi finished 4th, ahead of Kiyonari, Smrz, Nakano and Haga.
In both races Biaggi had excellent starts and his Aprilia RSV4 is still missing that one small but important step that will soon put the Roman Emperor on the podium.
Jamie Hacking trying to making a hot pass around Luca Scassa, collided with the Italian rider sending him to the gravel trap and himself to the back of the field.

Maybe the most disappointed rider was Leon Haslam who had worked from 12th to 4th on the grid, and was also third when he overtook Rea, but got pushed back to 4th after Rea caught him on the straight.
On the final lap, Haslam hit a kerb that sent him crashing with the finish line almost in sight.
With his second race win at Miller, Spies got his sixth race and retook second place in the WSBK Championship from Michel Fabrizio and reduced Noriyuki Haga’s lead.
