Right about the same time last year, there were talks that Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marin circuit was being considered as a new venue that could host a round of MotoGP.
Loris Capirossi and Casey Stoner even joined Franco Uncini and Dorna’s Carmelo Ezpeleta on a tour of the Mid Eastern mega complex to give their qualified opinions on the required safety standards needed for high level motorcycle racing, and the decision to put the track on the upcoming MotoGP calendar seems already a done deal, at least reading between the lines of a recent interview with Richard Cregan, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit, with only the date to be decided.
According to The National.
ae website, Cregan was reported as saying, “We’re looking at 2013 for the MotoGP, to be honest, to give us breathing space that we can develop what we have already started like the [racing] school and also the drag racing and the NHRA [National Hot Rod Association] licences.
We need to give ourselves a little bit of time to develop those, and then in 2013 we can add the MotoGP, that would be the ideal situation.
”It would be interesting to know if the event, whether be it in 2012 or 2013, will be hosted under the floodlights just like the Losail, Qatar GP or if will be held during the day.
