Australia’s AARK Racing has decided to join the World Supersport championship next season.
The squad from Down Under who won the Australian Supersport championship this year, will be fielding reigning champion Mitchell Carr on a Triumph Daytona 675R.
With Triumph the number of manufacturers present in the category will rise to six and include: Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, MV Agusta, and Suzuki.
AARK Racing is Melbourne-based and owned by Andy Offer and sponsored by West Australian electrical company Aark.
“I am so excited because we’ve been chipping away at the Australian title for so many years and now that we’ve won that, the team and myself just want to go bigger and better,” said Carr.
“To have the opportunity is awesome, really, because you’ve got so many talented Australian riders and they just struggle to get overseas, just because of the money commitments.
I’m just lucky that I’ve got a team that wants to go and that I’ve been given the opportunity.
”Offer said: “As many of the Australian riders venturing overseas this year will be riding for European teams, our team is a bit unique in that we will be a fully owned and managed Australian team.
I believe this will lift the profile of motorcycle racing in Australia.
We proved we have a winning formula and are excited to test our skills at the world level.
We expect that we will once again be able to represent our loyal sponsors with pride and anticipate a great year for our new sponsors and any potential sponsors coming on board.
”The 24-year old Carr took part in the final round of the season at Magny-Cours with a Honda from Benjan Racing and finished 24th.
The World Supersport championship gets under way at Australia’s Phillip Island round on February 22-24.
