Would have anyone thought at the beginning of the 2011 World Supersport season that the ParkinGo Team when they switched manufacturers to pick up slightly outdated Yamaha YZF-R6’s would have dominated the series and take the championship title with Chaz Davies? However the Welsh rider did it yesterday at Magny Cours.
An instantly competitive Davies podiumed seven times with five race wins so far this season, and after his engined blowed at Imola last weekend- where he was expected to take the title – the ParkingGo Yamaha rider decided to play it safe at the French circuit and crossed over the finish line in sixth, but it was enough to let him secure the title, with just one race left.
Teammate Luca Scassa took the race win and it was his third of the season.
Chaz Davies – 2011 World Supersport Champion“It’s been an amazing season and it has taken me 15 long years to get me where I am now.
There are so many emotions hitting me all at once, I’ve worked towards this all my life and I still believe I am now in this position.
I can’t thank my team and Yamaha enough for all their effort.
I certainly didn’t think at the beginning of the year that I’d be here now, taking the championship title.
My family and my girlfriend have been behind me all the way and I owe them so much.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this magical moment happen.
