While MotoGP riders are on a test ban for three months, the less rich World Superbike series has riders testing anytime they want to, like Leon Haslam, back from his honeymoon trip and getting sunburned in Borneo, who spent three days in a private test at the Cartagena circuit, ahead of the upcoming tests that the BMW Motorrad team will be carrying out at Eastern Creek and Phillip Island.
Haslam using the team’s test bike (his official ones are on their way to Australia) felt that this additional test was needed to improve his feeling and understanding of the electronics and throttle connection on the BMW S1000RR.
“We had three full days and I was on track until 6pm every night so I’ve done some laps! It was a bit strange being the only rider on track, but it worked well for us because we had so much to test,” Haslam told MCN.
