Almost every off season we hear rumors that MV Agusta wants to return to racing – last year it was Francis Batta who wanted to bring the Italian marque into World Supersports, but the project was derailed because of lack of funding (Alstare is now back in World Superbikes in 2013 with Ducati fielding Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini).
The latest rumor is that team ParkinGO run by a very capable Giuliano Rovelli who fielded Chaz Davies both in World Supersport (taking the 2011 title with Yamaha) and had an excellent debut season in World Superbikes, doesn’t want to pull out of racing and is currently negotiating with MV Augusta to run a pair of F3’s with factory support in 2013 in WSS and then eventually make the switch into WSBK’s in 2014, as he still has a number of sponsors wanting to back his team.
Apparently Rovelli has already sent feelers out towards his former Supersport rider Luca Scassa (he won the 2008 CIV Superbike championship on a F4) to see if he could be interested – his season in British Superbikes wasn’t that successful as he finished 15th overall – and Scassa seems more than interested in returning to racing on the international scene.
With Dorna now running the championship it will be interesting to see if Carmelo Ezpeleta can in someway also help ParkinGO get MV Agusta on on the grid next season which would be a great coup for the series.
