Volkswagen looking for a motorcycle producer, regrets Ducati

Originally reported by Milanese newspaper the Corriere della Sera, and indicated to us by reader lord_randal, Volkswagon apparently wants to enter the motorbike market.
Over at Volkswagon they’re missing a bike manufacturer to complete their range of products.
Confirming this was the company’s president Ferdinand Piech.

“I would like a small but profitable motorcyle manufacturer,” Piech has said in an interview, apparently regretting the missed acquisition of Ducati, when in difficult waters in 1985, a convenient piece of the company could have been bought.

Who knows whether anyone at the German company has seen the Volkswagon trike, the Polo with a GSX-R engine, the Golf with a Hayabusa and last but not least, the Audi branded prototype created by designer Bertrand Bach…?
