If the Mugello race was considered very good by most fans, the Sachsering GP will satisfy everyone.
It had more overtaking passes in this single race than we’ve seen all season and watching five-six riders open up in a fan at the bottom of the waterfall fighting for positions was as spectacular as was Dani Pedrosa’s victory.
The Repsol Honda rider came back after missing three races, undergoing two surgeries taking his second victory of the year in a race where he didn’t expect to last for the full 30 laps, instead he won the race with a 1.
477 margin.
The Spaniard in a class of his own, showing, as if anyone had any doubts, that if he wasn’t involved in the highly controversial crash at Le Mans would have been fighting for the championship title, powered past race leader Jorge Lorenzo on the straight with nine laps to go, moving so fast that he looked like he ripped off the decals from Lorenzo’s M1 leaving Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo to fight over the remaining two podium spots.
The second spot went to Jorge Lorenzo who outsmarted Casey Stoner on the final corner of the last lap, when the Australian who seemed to suffer from grip problems left the door slightly open, letting the Spaniard stuff in his M1 and crossing under the chequered flag before Repsol Honda rider by less than one tenth of a second.
The battle for fourth went down between Andrea Dovizioso and childhood arch enemy Marco Simoncelli, both riders loosing touch with the front runners halfway during the race, with Ben Spies getting into the fray on the final laps and getting the best of Simoncelli to take fifth.
The battle for seventh between an amazing and scrappy Alvaro Bautista, Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi who posted his fastest laps of the weekend in the race after qualifying a lowly 16th, ended up with the Suzuki rider pipping the spot followed by the two Ducatisti.
Colin Edwards took tenth after dropping away from the aggressive trio.
There was even a battle for the 11th position which ended up in the hands of Hector Barbera followed by Karel Abraham and Randy de Puniet.
Toni Elias who is risking his ride was 16th, while Capirossi’s replacement rider Sylvain Guintoli was 17th.
