Motosprint decided to hold their annual Caschi D’Oro awards ceremony yesterday evening at the EICMA show in Milano (they didn’t hold it last year because of the death of Marco Simoncelli ) and taking home two awards this year as highly expected, was Max Biaggi.

The Roman Emperor received the two top awards, one for his 2012 World Superbike championship title (six World titles in his career) and the second for the Top Rider of the Year that was voted by Motosprint’s readers.

Biaggi who announced his retirement earlier this month said, “It’s been 20 years and it was difficult to get here.

Tonight I was almost tempted not to come, it’s hard to think that it ends here.
” Several other riders from different categories were also awarded with trophies, MX1 World Champion Tony Cairoli, Kiara Fontanesi for her WMX title, the Italian Supermoto team (Ivan Lazzarini, Christian Ravaglia and Massimo Beltrami) Andrea Dovizioso, Marco Melandri, Andrea Iannone and Romano Fenati, the best that Italy had to offer this season.
