Jakub Smrz takes first Superpole of the season at Miller Motorsport Park

Jakub Smrz took his maiden Superpole of the 2012 season at Miller Motorsports Park today.
The Czech rider who dominated every session this weekend, except the second free practice, pipped Carlos Checa who had led both SP1 and SP2 stints, in his usual do-or-die last flying lap on a race tire posting a 1.

Tom Sykes was third and unable to take another pole position, but he stopped what looked like a Ducati 1-2-3 with his Kawasaki ZX-10R.
Closing the front row will be Althea’s Davide Giugliano who took a tow from his team mate and closed the session in 4th and his best Superpole result so far.
Opening the second row will be Jonathan Rea who took the fifth spot on the grid with Effenbert Liberty’s Sylvain Guintoli in sixth and just 0.

Aprilia’s Max Biaggi and Eugene Laverty were 7th and 8th respectively, but Laverty was unable to turn a single lap in SP3 as his factory RSV4 suffered a technical issue at the start of the stint.

Marco Melandri was only 9th as he was bumped out of SP3 in the last minute of SP2 by both Smrz and Giugliano as was Michel Fabrizio who qualified 10th.
