MotoGP qualifying session at Sachsenring has been red flagged after thirty five minutes into the hour, when Jorge Lorenzo’s Yamaha M1 started spewing oil (the engine had already 1500km on it) on the straight before the first turn and then caught fire.
With oil on the track, Ben Spies slid out followed by Randy de Puniet who tumbled into the gravel trap hitting his leg on Tech 3 Yamaha.
Spies was uninjured, but the French rider was nursing his right ankle and returned to his LCR garage on the back of Lucio Cecchinello’s scooter.
The session will restart at 14:50 pm approx, but may be shortened due to television programming.
UPDATE:Randy de Puniet will not taken part in the rest of the qualifying session, but was in the Clinica Mobile with his favourite Playboy bunny holding his hand.
