Jerez Moto2: Thomas Luthi leads in rain hampered day 1 test

Yesterday saw another three day Moto2 official test begin at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, with the riders able to use their official Honda engines for the first time.
Having received the engines they’ll be using from Geo Technology, we’ll be able to judge the grid much better and the relative strengths of the riders than the preceding official and private tests that were held in Barcelona, Valencia and Estoril, where everyone using different Honda 600 specs.

Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi on the Suter MMXI was the fastest of the field for two hours before rain hit the Spanish track and disrupted the session.
Luthi’s best lap was nearly a second faster than last year’s race lap record, ahead of Marc VDS Racing’s Scott Redding.

The third spot went to Yuki Takahashi (Moriwaki Gresini), followed by Stefan Bradl (Kalex), Jules Cluzel (Suter Forward), and Alex de Angelis in sixth on JiR’s MotoBi.
The test also saw Max Neukirchner debut with the FTR chassis, while team mate Anthony West is using the MZ chassis and the welcome return of Ratthapark Wilairot after his serious injuries picked up in a motorcycle accident in Thailand.
