Is Valentino Rossi back after Sachsenring performance?

We had to put the question to you guys: after Valentino Rossi’s impressive performance at the Sachsenring MotoGP after his Mugello injury, can we say that the Italian is back not only riding but also contending for the podium? It’s probably too early to say and it wouldn’t surprise me if Rossi put in this great performance to prove a point, and then will relax over the next few rounds.

At the same time, though, Valentino Rossi proved today, as if we weren’t convinced already, that he is a great champion and not just when things are all going well for him.
To see the kind of fight put in for third spot and a podium finish, Rossi has shown that he has no intention of hobbling back to his bike to put in a few laps for the spectacle of it.

His words today were: “I’ve never been so happy with a fourth place!”The psychological boost for Casey Stoner in winning his third spot after battling with Rossi (injured or not), shouldn’t be underestimated but we are curious to know what would have happened if Valentino had made the podium.

Apart from a media field day, we’d be curious to know what the other riders would have felt – beyond the obvious respect due in such a situation.
