WSBK: Shaun Whyte steps in for David Checa

WSBK tean Yamaha GMT 94 team has replaced their regular rider David Checa for this weekend’s round at Kyalami with Zimbabwean rider Shaun Whyte.
The 39 year old has been in the sport for 25 years and currently races with Team Yamaha in the South African Superbike Championship.

Shaun Whyte:“It’s a dream come true to be in World Superbikes and I’m grateful for this opportunity to be able to race with these guys.

I’m hoping I can do something to keep the honour of the Zimbabwe flag up.

” “With the bike that I will be getting in South Africa, I’m hoping to finish in the top 20.
In fact, if I manage to finish in the top 15, that will be a major accomplishment, but finishing in the top 20 will be a good finish for me because this is the first time that I will be competing in the World Superbikes and probably the last because I’m getting old.
Checa will return to the series for the next European event at Misano, but will be replaced by American rider Erwan Nigon for the Miller Motorsports Park round.
