Carlos Checa returned to his home town of Sant Fruitós de Bages to celebrate his World Superbike championship title, that he wrapped up at the Magny Cours round on Sunday and with two splendid victories.
The new World Superbike champion who will turn 39 on October 15th, was warmly welcomed by family, friends, city authorities and 600 proud fans and in front of the statue that the city had put up for their famous citizen in June, Checa confessed that he felt “at peace” after having won the title.

He was surprised and grateful for the welcome and said that “work and perseverance, a good bike and a good team,” helped him reach this success.
The town’s mayor, Josep Maria Batanes promised to name the sports center after him and at the end of the celebration, seven fireworks rockets (in honour of his racing number) lit the sky as the champagne flowed.
