Jerez de la Frontera circuit dedicates corner 13 to Jorge Lorenzo

During this weekend’s MotoGP race at Jerez de la Frontera, the Spanish circuit will be dedicating a corner to two-time and reigning World MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo.
The City of Jerez and the track organizers have decided to name corner 13 (the last turn of the circuit that was previously called Ducados) after Lorenzo, and the ceremony will take place on Saturday May 4th which also coincides with the Yamaha rider’s 26th birthday.

Lorenzo debuted in GP racing at Jerez eleven year’s ago in the now defunct 125cc class and he had to skip Friday’s practice session and wait until Saturday when he was legally of age to raceDuring a ceremony held at the Jerez city hall with Mayor María José García-Pelayo, Lorenzo thanked everyone saying, “It is a gift.
To me the Jerez circuit has always been very special.
It’s where I debuted and raced for the first time.

I’ve won several times here and never imagined having a corner with my name.
”He also added, “When I’ll ride the first time this weekend I’ll get nervous because I’m going through the Jorge Lorenzo corner” and “this will be a very special race for me”.

Lorenzo is the only other Spanish rider besides Alex Criville to have won a 500/MotoGP World title and the only one to have won it twice.
