From active lifestyle to weight gain

Before becoming a mother, Hayley led an active lifestyle, playing competitive basketball and maintaining a healthy routine. However, everything changed when she became pregnant in 2022. “During pregnancy, I seriously neglected my health, which resulted in a weight gain of around six stone,” she recalls. The convenience of fast food and a sedentary lifestyle took a toll on her well-being. Hayley went from weighing 10 stone to 16 stone, feeling uncomfortable and out of breath.

Finding strength in fitness

After giving birth to her son, Lyall, Hayley realized that she needed to make a change. “Postpartum, I felt extremely weak and miserable both physically and mentally,” she admits. Three months after Lyall’s birth, she joined a gym, which she describes as one of her best decisions. “The gym has been my sanctuary during tough times,” she says. At Get Active @ Jesmond gym, she discovered a passion for weightlifting, gradually building her confidence and strength.

Transforming habits for a healthier lifestyle

Alongside her fitness journey, Hayley made significant changes to her eating habits. Initially tracking her calories, she now focuses on a high-protein diet and meal prepping for convenience. “I try not to restrict myself but choose healthier options,” she explains. This shift in mindset has made a noticeable difference in how she feels. “I feel rubbish after a takeaway now, so I make healthier versions at home,” she adds. Her dedication has paid off, as she has shed about six stone and is back to her pre-pregnancy weight.

Empowering others through personal training

Hayley’s journey has inspired her to pursue a career in personal training, particularly focusing on pre and postnatal fitness. “I want to help other women who may feel down after having a baby,” she says. With the support of her partner, Jack, and mentorship from a local personal trainer, Hayley is excited to start her qualifications next year. Her goal is to empower women to build confidence and find joy in fitness, emphasizing that it’s not just about weight loss but overall well-being.

A brighter future ahead

As Hayley looks forward to the future, she reflects on her journey with pride. “Making better choices for my health is the best thing I’ve done for myself,” she shares. With her son Lyall by her side, she is committed to becoming the best version of herself, both physically and mentally.
