In the heart of Cullen, a new gift shop named Wyrd and Whimsy is set to enchant locals and visitors alike. Opening its doors on November 15, the shop promises a diverse range of products, from crystals and ‘witchy’ books to holistic healing remedies. Owner Deedee Rush, a Moray resident, has long dreamed of creating a space that reflects her passions and interests.
Deedee, 44, shared her journey with The Press and Journal, revealing that the idea of starting her own business had been brewing for quite some time. “They say to stick to what you know and love, don’t they? The shop’s going to be a bit of everything I love,” she explained. Her deep connection to Cullen, where she has lived for years, played a significant role in her decision to establish the shop in this picturesque location.
Her inspiration stems not only from her own interests but also from her parents, who owned an antiques shop for 25 years. Deedee’s background in holistic healing began when her daughter faced skin issues, prompting her to create natural moisturizers and remedies. This personal experience ignited her passion for holistic health, leading her to finally pursue her dream of opening a shop.
Wyrd and Whimsy will feature an array of products that cater to those interested in the mystical and the holistic. Customers can expect to find candles, crystals, incense, tarot decks, and books focused on magical healing. Deedee has partnered with various vendors, including Rag n Bone Jewellery, Crone Arts, Seven Chaga, and Bead Buggie, to provide a unique shopping experience.
In addition to retail offerings, the shop will also house a second room dedicated to creative and healing workshops. Deedee envisions this space as a hub for therapists to conduct treatments and for community members to engage in discussions about health and wellbeing. Activities such as arts and crafts and poetry readings will also be part of the offerings, fostering a sense of creativity and connection among participants.
The grand opening of Wyrd and Whimsy is strategically scheduled to coincide with the full moon, a time often associated with new beginnings and magical energy. Deedee expressed her excitement about the launch, stating, “I’d like to host evenings where we talk about health and wellbeing.” This opening marks not just the start of a business but also a new chapter in Deedee’s life, where her passions and professional aspirations align.
As Cullen welcomes Wyrd and Whimsy, it is poised to become a beloved destination for those seeking mystical gifts and holistic healing. With its unique offerings and community-focused approach, the shop is set to thrive in this charming coastal town.
