In 2019, Pact held a community meeting to discuss the future of Victoria Park.
They presented three options: a simple football pitch, a covered facility, and a children’s park. The community overwhelmingly chose the latter, igniting a spark of hope for the park’s revival. However, just as plans were set to commence, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, bringing unforeseen challenges. The situation worsened when acts of vandalism devastated the newly installed equipment, causing significant damage.
Despite these setbacks, Alan Fakley and Dianne Beagrie, key figures in the project, remained undeterred. “They were challenges, but not obstacles,” Alan remarked. Their determination to create a safe and enjoyable space for children and families in Peterhead only grew stronger. With resilience and community support, they pushed forward, transforming the park into a lively hub for recreation.
A new era for Victoria Park
Fast forward five years, and the park has undergone a remarkable transformation. Children now flock to the newly installed climbing frames and swings, their laughter echoing through the air. The revitalization project has not only restored the park but has also fostered a sense of community pride. As the park flourished, the team identified another opportunity: the derelict tennis courts nearby. With a vision to create a modern pump track, they secured funding and began construction. This £300,000 project is set to open soon, promising to attract BMX enthusiasts from across Scotland. “If other towns have these facilities, then why can’t we?” Alan stated, emphasizing the group’s commitment to enhancing Peterhead’s recreational offerings.

The success of the park and pump track has inspired Pact to continue their efforts. Plans are underway to develop a multi-use games area featuring outdoor handball, netball, and basketball courts, which would be a first for Peterhead. As construction progresses, the community eagerly anticipates the new facilities that will further enrich local life.
