New cafe Fable set to open in Aberdeen, blending comfort and quality
Aberdeen is about to welcome a new culinary gem as Eve and Ewan Morrison prepare to launch their cafe, Fable, on Huntly Street. The couple, both 24, are excited yet apprehensive about this significant leap into the cafe business.

“It’s just such a big leap,” Eve expresses, highlighting the mix of emotions that come with starting something new. “But it’ll all be worth it once it’s open.” The premises, previously known as The Roastery, is undergoing renovations to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Quality food with a personal touch

Fable aims to offer a menu that emphasizes simplicity and quality. The cafe will feature a small hot menu, including toasties, soup, and pies sourced from Wark Farm. Eve shares her vision: “We’re wanting to do very basic food but of a very high quality. It’ll just be your average options like cheese and ham toastie, but a really good cheese and ham toastie.” In addition to these offerings, customers can look forward to delicious cakes from local baker Just One More, alongside Eve’s own baked goods, such as gingerbread and nutmeg ginger apple snaps inspired by the beloved film, Fantastic Mr. Fox.

A cozy retreat in the heart of Aberdeen

As the couple works on transforming the space, Eve emphasizes the importance of creating a warm and welcoming environment. “We want it to be cosier,” she says, mentioning plans to paint the walls a darker green and install exposed light bulbs similar to those in their popular horsebox coffee truck, The Roost. Eve envisions Fable as a safe haven where customers can relax, whether they are catching up with friends or enjoying some solitude. “I want it to be like a little nook in Aberdeen where you can go to escape the cold weather,” she adds.

Connecting with customers in a new way

One of the aspects Eve is most looking forward to is the opportunity to engage more with customers. At The Roost, the couple often finds it challenging to have meaningful conversations, especially during inclement weather. However, Fable will provide a warm and inviting space for interaction. “I’m looking forward to spending more time with my customers. It will be nice and warm, and you can actually spend time with them,” she explains. This personal touch is a key element of their vision for Fable, ensuring that every visitor feels valued and at home.

While a precise opening date has yet to be confirmed, the couple is optimistic about welcoming patrons in just a few weeks. Fable will operate from Tuesday to Saturday, 9 AM to 4 PM, promising a delightful experience for all who visit.
