Authorities in the Western Isles have ramped up their search efforts for Shanahan MacInnes, a 28-year-old woman reported missing from Benbecula. Shanahan was last seen in the Tindill Road area of Balivanich on the morning of Friday, November 22.

Description and last known whereabouts
Shanahan is described as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a slim build and long blonde hair. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a burgundy tracksuit and distinctive white trainers featuring a black Nike tick.
Authorities believe she may have additional clothing with her, including black trainers with a gold buckle and a black North Face jacket, which she might have changed into after being last seen.
Coastguard and police collaboration
This morning, the Coastguard confirmed that search operations for Shanahan resumed at 8 AM. Rescue teams from Tarbert and Skye are currently en route to Benbecula via ferry to assist in the ongoing search efforts. A spokesperson for the Coastguard stated, “We have resumed the search for missing woman Shanahan MacInnes at 8 AM today. Two Coastguard rescue teams from Tarbert and Skye are also on a ferry on their way to the island to assist with the search.”

Inspector Ross McCartney expressed deep concern over Shanahan’s disappearance, noting that it is highly unusual for her to be missing. “This is extremely out of character for Shanahan to be missing, and we’re becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare,” he stated. Inspector McCartney urged locals to check their gardens, sheds, and any other potential hiding spots where Shanahan may have sought shelter.
