A new Salvation Army donation centre and shop is set to open its doors in Aberdeen, providing a much-needed resource for the local community. Located at the former Evans Cycles on Great Northern Road, this centre aims to facilitate easier donations of large items, including furniture and electrical goods.

Enhanced donation experience for the community

The Salvation Army is optimistic that the new location will significantly improve the donation experience for residents. With the added benefit of free parking, individuals can conveniently drop off their items without the hassle of searching for a parking spot.

Additionally, the charity’s furniture collection team is available for house calls, making it even easier for those who wish to donate larger items from the comfort of their homes.

A partnership for community growth

This new initiative is made possible through a partnership between the Salvation Army’s trading arm, SATCoL, and The Salvation Army Citadel located on Castlegate. Angus Adams, the development support coordinator for SATCoL, expressed the charity’s commitment to becoming an integral part of the Aberdeen community. “We have worked closely with Major Peter to create something that will become an asset to the city,” Adams stated.

Opportunities for volunteering and community involvement

The opening of the donation centre not only serves as a place for donations but also as a hub for community engagement. It offers a perfect volunteering opportunity for local residents looking to contribute to a meaningful cause. Volunteers will gain valuable retail and business experience while working for one of the UK’s most recognized charities. Furthermore, the Salvation Army provides free award-winning training and access to numerous benefits for its volunteers, making it an attractive option for those wishing to give back.

The donation centre will operate Monday to Saturday, from 9 am to 5 pm. With ample space available, the centre will showcase pre-loved furniture alongside donated clothing and household items, creating a welcoming environment for shoppers and donors alike.
