More than 175 students from five primary schools light up the stage in Inverness.
In a heartwarming display of talent and holiday spirit, over 175 young performers from five primary schools captivated audiences at the Press & Journal Christmas Concert held in Inverness. Despite the frigid temperatures, the Macdonald Drumossie Hotel was filled to capacity with enthusiastic attendees eager to witness the festive performances.
Celebrating local talent
This year’s concert marked a significant moment for the Highland capital, as it was the second consecutive year the event took place in Inverness, following its long-standing tradition in Aberdeen for 55 years. The concert has quickly become a cherished holiday event for the community, showcasing the incredible talents of local youth.
Pupils from Cauldeen, Ardersier, Culbokie, Tarradale, and Aviemore primary schools took to the stage, delivering outstanding performances that left the audience in awe. The young performers sang their hearts out, embodying the festive spirit that the concert aims to promote. Additionally, a group from Stagecoach Performing Arts joined in, further enriching the evening’s entertainment.
Supporting local schools
The concert, directed by former music teacher Laura Pike, is not just a celebration of talent but also a vital fundraising initiative. Sponsored by Spar Scotland, the event is expected to generate significant funds for local schools through the Pounds for Primaries initiative. Last year, the concert raised over £21,600, benefiting 120 schools in the northern and northeastern regions of Scotland.
Craig Walker, the editor of The Press & Journal, emphasized the concert’s community impact, stating, “A big part of the concert is that the money raised from ticket sales and the money kindly put into our collection buckets goes to good causes in the area.” This commitment to local education will continue, with plans to launch the fundraising scheme again in early 2025.
