New music on the horizon
Fans were treated to a glimpse of what’s to come, as accordionist Gary Innes shared the exciting news of a new album set to release in the spring. Among the highlights of the night was their recent single, Standing Still, where Kim Carnie’s vocals shone brightly, adding a new layer of depth to their performance.
A night of accolades and celebration
Midway through the concert, the band took a moment to celebrate their recent achievements. While the Lemon Tree crowd reveled in the music, Gary Innes was honored as the Industry Person of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards happening simultaneously in Inverness. His contributions to Scottish traditional music, particularly through his role on BBC Radio Scotland’s Take the Floor, have made him a beloved figure in the community. The joy he brings to the stage is infectious, making it no surprise that he received such recognition.
Additionally, drummer Mark Scobie was celebrated as Drummer of the Year, a testament to his exceptional talent and the band’s cohesive sound. The night culminated in a lively performance of Puirt, a fast-paced tune that had everyone on their feet, with Kim and Ewen sharing the spotlight in a delightful vocal exchange.
As the evening drew to a close, the only thing missing was the promised “bottle of prosecco for everyone” from Gary, which would have been a fitting end to a night filled with laughter and music. Nonetheless, the spirit of St Andrews Day was alive and well, thanks to Manran’s unforgettable performance.
