Community spirit shines as local charities receive over £126,000
The Press and Journal has announced an impressive fundraising achievement, with its dedicated readers and local businesses raising over £126,000 for five local charities through the P&J Community Fund.

This remarkable total was reached over the past year, showcasing the power of community support and generosity.

Celebrating 275 years of community service

In 2023, The Press and Journal marked its 275th anniversary by launching the P&J Community Fund, aimed at supporting local charities that make a significant impact in the community.

The initiative has successfully united readers and businesses in a collective effort to raise funds for worthy causes.

Distribution of funds to local charities

The total amount raised, £126,249.77, has been evenly distributed among five charity partners: Friends of Anchor, Save Bon Accord Baths, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA), SurfABLE Scotland, and Munlochy Animal Aid. Each charity received £25,249.95, which will significantly aid their ongoing projects and initiatives.

Events that made a difference

A series of fundraising events contributed to this impressive total, including the inaugural P&J Charity Gala, where £50,000 was shared among the charities. Additionally, the P&J Run Fest saw hundreds of participants come together to support the cause, further boosting the funds raised. Local businesses, such as Bancon Homes and ANM Group, also played a crucial role by organizing their own fundraising activities throughout the year.

Community engagement and future plans

Craig Walker, editor of The Press and Journal, expressed pride in the community’s efforts, stating, “We are delighted to have raised more than £126,000 for our five charity partners in the first P&J Community Fund.” He emphasized the importance of the funds in helping these organizations continue their vital work in the community.

As the newspaper embarks on a new chapter, it is now seeking two new charity partners for the upcoming 2025/26 period. The nomination process has been launched, and Mr. Walker is eager to find partners who will benefit from the same level of community support.

“We’re looking forward to finding our new charity partners who we’ll work with over the next two years to help promote the great work they do and raise as much money as possible,” he added.

This initiative not only highlights the generosity of the community but also sets a precedent for future fundraising efforts, ensuring that local charities continue to receive the support they need to thrive.
