Train driver Pauline Smith reported that she was traveling at approximately 68 mph when she noticed Nicol’s vehicle emerging onto the tracks at the Lower Cullernie crossing, located near Allanfearn.

With less than two seconds to react, Smith’s quick thinking was crucial in averting a more catastrophic outcome.
