Ross County aims to end their scoring drought in this crucial match against Hibernian.

In a crucial match this Saturday, Ross County’s defender Akil Wright is determined to help his team end a long-standing winless streak in away league games. The last time County celebrated an away victory was in September of last year, when they secured a narrow 1-0 win against Kilmarnock.

Since then, the team has struggled to find the back of the net, failing to score in five of their last six matches.

Recent struggles and the quest for goals

Ross County’s recent performances have been challenging, particularly after facing two of the league’s toughest teams, Celtic and Rangers.

The Staggies suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat against Celtic and a 3-0 loss at home to Rangers, leaving them in eighth place in the Premiership. With only three points separating them from 12th-placed Hibernian, the upcoming match at Easter Road is critical for both teams.

Wright, who joined the team this summer, has already made an impact by scoring two goals. However, he acknowledges the collective responsibility of the team to improve their scoring record. “Scoring goals from every area of the pitch will help the team going forward, from defense to up front,” he stated. The defender emphasized the importance of breaking their away goal drought, saying, “It would be great to change that on Saturday and hopefully end our drought of not winning away from home.”

Pressure mounts as the Staggies prepare for Hibs

The pressure is palpable as both teams prepare for this significant clash. Wright expressed the importance of securing a win, which would not only boost their confidence but also create a six-point cushion over Hibernian. “If we could win, it would be massive – we want to increase the gap to six points. It’s a massive game and we need to turn our away form around,” he said.

Looking ahead, County’s schedule includes matches against St Mirren, Dundee, and Hearts, providing them with an opportunity to climb the table. Wright remains optimistic, despite the recent setbacks against the Old Firm. “Although Celtic and Rangers are big teams in the league, you still always fancy your chances, especially at home. We’re in the same league as them, so we always want to get three points,” he remarked.

Reflecting on past performances

In the recent match against Rangers, Wright came close to scoring, but his header was saved by goalkeeper Jack Butland. Reflecting on the game, he noted, “It wasn’t the best first half. The goals were avoidable. It was a better second half, and we showed great character, and we could have nicked a goal from a corner.” He believes that had his effort gone in, it could have changed the outcome of the match.

As the Staggies gear up for their encounter with Hibernian, the focus will be on improving their performance and finally breaking their away drought. With the stakes high and the team eager to secure a much-needed victory, all eyes will be on Wright and his teammates this Saturday.
