As the January transfer window approaches, Ross County’s manager, Don Cowie, is actively seeking to enhance his squad with the addition of a winger. Currently positioned eighth in the Premiership, the Staggies are facing a crucial match against Hibernian, who sit at the bottom of the league table, with only three points separating the two teams. Following heavy defeats to Celtic and Rangers, Cowie recognizes the urgent need for a victory to avoid being pulled into the relegation battle.
Cowie, in his inaugural full season at the helm of the Dingwall club, has emphasized the importance of continually evaluating the squad. He stated, “We’re always evaluating the squad and looking to try and improve. You have to do that.” His commitment to progress is evident as he identifies the need for a wide player, which he believes would add a new dimension to the team’s play.
“That’s one area that we’ve identified as a club that would give us something different,” he added.
With a relatively large squad, Cowie anticipates that some players may seek opportunities elsewhere. He is open to discussions regarding player movements, stating, “I would never stand in anyone’s way if it would help their career and give them that platform to go and play regular football.” As the January window approaches, he expects these conversations to intensify, particularly as the team currently has more players than can be accommodated in matchday squads.
In addition to his search for a winger, Cowie recently addressed the signing of German goalkeeper Jordan Amissah on a short-term deal. With first-choice keeper Ross Laidlaw sidelined for up to ten weeks due to a knee injury, the 23-year-old Amissah brings valuable experience from his previous clubs, including Guiseley and Burton Albion. Cowie noted the importance of securing a goalkeeper with more experience, stating, “It was important to bring in another keeper with more experience in football age-wise.”
As the Staggies prepare for the challenges ahead, Cowie’s proactive approach to squad enhancement and player management will be crucial in navigating the remainder of the season. With the January transfer window on the horizon, fans will be keenly watching for any developments that could bolster the team’s chances of success.
