Transforming Aberdeen’s Energy Landscape
Aberdeen, known as the oil capital of Europe, continues to showcase its potential in the oil and gas sector, despite the challenges faced by the industry in recent years. AM Sci Tech, a subsidiary of Manchester-based Hurstwood Holdings, has made significant strides since acquiring the Aberdeen Energy & Innovation Parks a year ago.
The company has successfully leased over 40,000 square feet of space, attracting notable tenants such as Keenan Recycling, Prospect 13, and ICR.
Strategic Investments and Future Plans
Chief Executive Stephen Ashworth emphasizes the transformation of the parks since their acquisition from Moorfield Group.
With plans to expand their portfolio, AM Sci Tech is actively seeking additional sites in the region to capitalize on the success of their current investments. Ashworth’s confidence in the oil and gas industry is evident as he states, “I believe in oil and gas and feel it’s still got some way to run.” This sentiment reflects a broader belief that the sector will continue to evolve and adapt to new challenges and opportunities.
Adapting to Industry Changes
The oil and gas industry in Aberdeen is at a pivotal point, with Ashworth noting that the city will adapt to the changing landscape. He asserts that there are numerous opportunities on the horizon, particularly as the UK strives for greater energy efficiency. The two parks, comprising over 13 buildings and more than 120 tenants, also present 16 acres of untapped development potential, further underscoring the area’s significance in the energy sector.
Encouraging Trends and Future Developments
Since taking ownership, AM Sci Tech has implemented a strategic reduction in rental rates by approximately 35% to attract new tenants. This move has proven effective, resulting in a surge of tenancy agreements and ambitious plans for further investment. Ashworth highlights the growing interest from new businesses, stating, “People want our buildings. The enquiries are coming through from lots of new businesses as well.” This influx of interest serves as a positive indicator of Aberdeen’s economic health and potential for growth.
Looking Ahead
With two refurbishment programs planned for the upcoming year and ongoing exploration of additional sites, AM Sci Tech is committed to enhancing Aberdeen’s energy landscape. The acquisition of the Aberdeen Energy & Innovation Parks has been hailed as one of the most significant property deals in the city in the last decade, and the company’s proactive approach signals a promising future for the oil and gas sector in Aberdeen.
