Lucy Slattery and Claire Tester breathe new life into a neglected space, creating a vibrant beauty hub.
In a bold move that reflects both resilience and creativity, sisters Lucy Slattery and Claire Tester have successfully transitioned their beauty business, Moossh Beauty, into a new location in Aberdeen’s picturesque west end. After outgrowing their previous salon on Union Street, the duo seized the opportunity to breathe new life into a former office space, turning it into a vibrant beauty hub.
A blank canvas for creativity
When Lucy and Claire first stepped into the dusty offices on Albyn Terrace, they recognized the potential of the space, despite its “dull and clinical” appearance. The sisters, along with their father George, envisioned a transformation that would reflect their artistic flair and commitment to customer experience.
With dirty-white walls and aged wooden banisters, the property was far from ideal, but they saw it as a blank canvas ready for their creative touch.
Having previously taken over the former Nailco Nail Bar in 2022, the sisters had already proven their ability to revitalize a struggling business. Their fresh brand and skilled approach allowed Moossh Beauty to flourish, even as they faced challenges in the city center. The recent introduction of bus gates and a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) had begun to deter clients, prompting the sisters to seek a new location that would better serve their growing customer base.
Investing in the future
With a significant investment of £750,000, Lucy and Claire transformed the former RSPB offices into a trendy salon that boasts a welcoming atmosphere. The renovation included bright colors and artistic designs, many of which were painted by Lucy herself. The new space features manicure and pedicure stations, massage and wax rooms, and even the potential for additional offices on the top floor.
“We wanted this to say ‘Don’t be afraid to try something new’,” Lucy explained, emphasizing their goal of creating a cozy, comforting environment that inspires creativity. The sisters believe that the vibrant vibe of the west end enhances the overall experience for their clients, making it a desirable destination for beauty treatments.
Community and collaboration
As they settle into their new home, Lucy and Claire have noticed a shift in the local business landscape. They believe that while the city center has struggled, the west end is thriving with a sense of community and collaboration among local businesses. “There is plenty of parking, lovely cafes, parks, and all of the businesses work together,” Claire noted, highlighting the advantages of their new location.
The sisters are optimistic about the future of Moossh Beauty, with their appointment book already filled for months ahead. Their commitment to customer satisfaction and family values drives their success, as they continue to innovate and adapt to the changing business environment. “Everything we do – across both businesses – is a family effort,” they stated, reinforcing their dedication to providing exceptional service.
As Moossh Beauty embarks on this exciting new chapter, Lucy and Claire’s journey serves as a testament to the power of resilience, creativity, and community support in the face of challenges. Their story is not just about transforming a space; it’s about building a thriving business that reflects their passion and commitment to their clients.
