Topics covered
This holiday season, many families face the bittersweet reality of celebrating without their loved ones. For Vikki Chalmers from Peterhead, this Christmas is particularly poignant as she remembers her daughter, Wynter-Rose, and her partner, Jordan Weir, both of whom passed away in 2022.
Vikki’s story is a testament to love, loss, and the enduring bonds that remain even after death.
Finding love and building a family
Vikki met Jordan through social media in 2012, a connection that blossomed into a deep and loving relationship.
“He sent me a friend request on Facebook and kept asking me for a date,” Vikki recalls. Their bond grew stronger over the years, leading to the birth of two daughters: Amelie, born in 2015, and Wynter-Rose, who arrived two years later. However, their joy was tempered by the challenges that came with Wynter-Rose’s health issues.
The challenges of parenting a child with a rare condition
Wynter-Rose was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition shortly after her 34-week scan, a revelation that changed the family’s life. “Both her dad and I were carriers,” Vikki explains. Despite the difficulties, Wynter’s spirit shone brightly. “She was so content, always smiling,” Vikki remembers. The family spent countless hours in hospitals, navigating the complexities of Wynter’s care while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy.
Grieving together and apart
Tragically, Wynter-Rose passed away on April 16, 2022, at just four-and-a-half years old. The loss was devastating, and just two months later, Jordan also passed away. “I don’t think I’ve accepted it yet,” Vikki admits. The grief was overwhelming, especially for their eldest daughter, Amelie, who is now nine. “I’ve tried to shield my little girl from grief, but I think the time is right to share a tribute,” Vikki says, emphasizing the importance of remembering their loved ones.
Creating a lasting memory this Christmas
This Christmas, Vikki is determined to honor Wynter-Rose and Jordan’s memory. “I want people to remember them both,” she states. By sharing her story, Vikki hopes to provide Amelie with a glimpse into the love her father and sister had for her. “Christmas won’t be easy. It never is when you miss people you love,” she reflects. Yet, through this tribute, Vikki finds solace in expressing her grief publicly, making the loss feel more real and tangible.
As families gather this holiday season, Vikki’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of cherishing memories and honoring those who have left us. In the face of loss, love endures, and the bonds we share with our loved ones remain unbroken.
