Ross County seeks to turn around their fortunes in the Premiership with a crucial match against Dundee.
As the Scottish Premiership season progresses, Ross County finds itself in a precarious position, currently sitting 11th in the league table. Following a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to St Mirren, the team has now lost four consecutive matches, including tough encounters against Celtic, Rangers, and Hibernian.
With only three league victories to their name this season, the Staggies are in dire need of a turnaround, especially with the festive clash against Dundee looming on Boxing Day.
Struggles in front of goal
One of the most pressing issues for Ross County has been their inability to find the back of the net consistently.
The team has managed to score just four goals in their last eight fixtures, a statistic that highlights their struggles in the attacking third. Furthermore, their defensive record is equally concerning, having conceded 35 goals, which ties them for the worst defensive record in the league alongside Kilmarnock. This combination of poor scoring and leaky defense has left them teetering just above the relegation zone, with only a single point separating them from last-placed St Johnstone.
Focus on winning
Manager Don Cowie has made it clear that the time for talk is over; the team must start winning matches to secure their place in the Premiership. “Talk is cheap, we need to start winning games now,” Cowie stated after the recent defeat. He emphasized the importance of gaining points to strengthen their position in the league, especially as other teams around them begin to improve. The upcoming match against Dundee presents a critical opportunity for the Staggies to secure their first away league victory since September, when they managed a narrow 1-0 win against Kilmarnock.
Preparing for the challenge
In preparation for the match against Dundee, Cowie has urged his players to adapt to the conditions and play to their strengths. Reflecting on the recent match against St Mirren, he noted that while they managed to equalize shortly after halftime, they failed to capitalize on their momentum and secure a second goal. “Unfortunately, we didn’t do enough after that to get a second goal,” he lamented. As they head into the match against Dundee, the team will need to focus on executing the basics effectively and maintaining composure under pressure.
Dundee, currently positioned seventh in the league, will be looking to bounce back after their own recent defeat against Rangers. With both teams eager to secure vital points, the match promises to be a thrilling encounter. For Ross County, a victory is not just a matter of pride; it is essential for their survival in the league.
